Labuhanbatu – The scout camp which was initially full of joy in Pancasila Hamlet, N4 Aek Nabara Village, Bilah Hulu District, suddenly turned into a tragedy when a tree fell on the participants, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at around 18.30 WIB.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of two students, Aprilian Simatupang (11) and M Firja (11), and resulted in 16 other victims being injured, including one victim with serious injuries.
Head of Public Relations of Labuhanbatu Police, AKP Syafrudin said that this incident occurred when the victims were taking part in a scout camping activity organized by the Citra Bangsa Al Itihat Aek Nabara Foundation.
"The number of victims reached 18 people, with two deaths," said Syafrudin in his statement on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
All victims, continued Syafrudin, were immediately rushed to several nearby health facilities, namely Sri Pamela Hospital, Perbaungan Bilah Hulu Health Center, and Rantauprapat Regional Hospital to receive medical treatment.
Currently, 15 victims are reported to have only suffered minor injuries, but one victim requires further treatment due to the serious injuries he suffered.
The scout camp, attended by more than 3,000 participants, was lively until this tragic incident occurred.
"This camp involves around 3,000 participants from 150 elementary, junior high, and senior high schools," said Syafrudin.
However, Syafrudin has not provided detailed information regarding the chronology of the tree falling.[]
